In recent years, the methods for vastly cleaner leather production have advanced. At S.R. Leather, embracing that change is not an option, it a necessity for the future. S.R. Leather has redesigned its processes to reflect a commitment to both environmental protection and improvement through the reduction and reversal of pollutive effects in standard leather processing and waste treatment methods.
Our processes now utilize and combine traditional techniques, proprietary enzymatic treatments and Zeolite technology to create three types of rich, fully natural, fully biodegradable leathers to accommodate diverse client needs and desired qualities.
Telo TanThe Future is Soft and Bright.
Bright colors and finishes begin with brighter whites. Telo Tan is designed to be the brightest white base for endless color and finishing possibilities. Aldehyde tanning is great for producing white base (wet-white) hides, but standard aldehyde tanning requires the use of added formaldehyde and glutaraldehyde to achieve whiteness. At S.R.Leather, we let plants do all that work. We’ve designed our own in-house tanning agent that triggers certain plants to naturally create their own tanning aldehydes.

- Tanning time is significantly reduced, greatly reducing water consumption, waste water and Co2 emissions per ton of hides.

Zelo TanThe Future Doesn’t Fade
- Zeolites are not new. They have been around for millions of years as a type of clay minerals. They’ve long been known for benefits sich as ability to remove toxins in clean up. Since it was discovered that natural zeolites can help tan leather beautifully, hope has now turned to confidence that much can be done to to improve leather production worldwide by switching to zeolite methods. We are proud to be on that cutting edge.

- Zeolites allow dyes to absorb deep into individual fibers for true, consistent colors that won’t fade or change over time.
- Zelo Tan articles are firmer leathers with applications in shoes, travel, furniture and saddlery.
- Zelo Tan effects are distributed evenly through the hide making all parts consistent in hand feel and performance, dramatically increasing piece yield per hide.
- Zelo tan hides can be stored dry for long periods of time.
- Zelo tan finishes with an ivory / white color base allowing for deep, vibrant color and finishing options that remain stable throughout the long life of the product.
- Zelo tanning steps and its dying steps can be combined, greatly reducing the volume of water for rinses needed after each step separately.
- Zelo Tan leather can be processed for water repellant and washability features.
- Zelo tan leathers, and everything in them, are fully biodegradable.
Leaf TanFuture Heritage.
- S.R. Leather Leaf Tan incorporates only leaf matter from hardwood varieties such as mahogany, teak and guava. The result is classic Veg tanned style leather.
- The hardwood leaves result in a finished classic golden-tan coloring
- All Leaf matter is collected from farming and forestry programs without felling trees.
- Zelo tan + Leaf tan can be treated for water resistance and washability.
